For Mom

I guess we never know what is going to happen when we wake in the morning. Last week I had to visit the Doctor for some throat issues I was having. Little did I know that I would have a procedure done the next morning and Mom was there to help me through. A few days later Mom had a bad spell and spent an evening in the hospital. We are both doing well and managed to see a small quilt show at the Perrysburg Library in the middle of our medical issues:) This post is for Mom, I love her so much and I don't where I would be without her. She taught me so many things about life and shared with me her love of sewing, I am forever grateful!

Mom - Rita on her wedding day

I took Mom to my Art Quilt group meeting. This month we were to make something with crayons. I shaved them, melted them on fabric then sprinkled embellishments and more savings on the fabric. I layered it with netting and quilted everything together. It was fun to share and see everyone's creations. Next month is creating something with a vision of "vacations".

Thanks Mom! I love you much! Take time this week to thank everyone you love
for being who they are! Blessings to all!

Making New Friends...

What a wonderful feeling to meet someone you took an on-line class with! I had the honor of meeting Gwen Gwinner from my Fabric Portrait class at Quilt University. Their were students
from all over the world and it just so happened that Gwen only lives about an hour from my house! She lives right on the way to Amish Country in Northeast Ohio. I love to go their because they have some of the most wonderful quilt shops I have ever found.

Gwen made the first fabric portrait of her husband. She did wonderful thread painting and so much detail! Her second masterpiece was also very stunning and she displayed it at the
National Quilt Show in Columbus this past June.

All the pictures were taken in her quilt studio. We had a wonderful time getting to know each other. I know I will stop and see her again.

Life always takes us into new directions. I spent some quality time with my father this past Saturday. In a few weeks his childhood home is going to be auctioned and I took him to the open house. The house is amazing. It needs a lot of work but it really has a charm about it that is hard to explain. It was a joy to watch him look around like a child and share all his childhood memories with me. The best part of the day was when I ran into my cousin Teresa...I know her as Teri. We have only met maybe twice in our lives (when we were kids) and here we were in the house our parents grew up in and by chance saw each other. So much to talk about, I look forward to getting to know her and the rest of the family!

Thanks for stopping by! You never know what will happen to you when you start your day! Embrace the happy times and enjoy new blessings!

A New Toy!

I have to admit I have wanted a Singer Featherweight Sewing machine for a long time. I've looked at them over and over again and thought well maybe someday...

Boy, I'm glad I was at the right place at the right time! I sure love this little machine and have been using it since the day it arrived. I think she needs a name, I will have to work on that!

Trick or Treat Season is just around the corner and I thought I would post my first paper piecing project I did. It was great fun and I see more of this technique in my future.

I'm currently working on a "One Block Wonder" wall hanging. I will be presenting it to my quilt group in November so I need to keep working on it. I'm also taking an on-line class. Busy hands are good for the soul:)

I hope everyone is safe and doing well. Thank you for checking up on me!

Life's Lessons & Some New Art!

This past summer has taught me more about the gift of life than I could have ever imagined. One thing I know for sure is you never know when you get up each morning what lies ahead of you. Something out of the ordinary always seems to happen to me. This past weekend I was blessed with a good dose of poison ivy. While I was at the Doctor's office waiting for my shot one of life's "moments" happened. There where only four of us in the waiting room, a mother and small child, an older gentleman and a medication representative. All of us were lost in thoughts of our own circumstances. Soon the door opened and a lady walked in. It was obvious she had issues with her sight and it was hard for her to get around. After her talk with the receptionist she sat down close to me. Quickly the older gentleman jumped from his chair and approached her and happily said..."Do you remember me?" And that was all it took. Although she could not see the gentleman very well, she knew exactly who it was. Their conversation took them back to their younger days. They talked about their families, friends and life experiences because they had not seen each other for over 25 years. You could feel the warmth between them, it was one of those everyday experiences we take for granted. Life is about moments, sometimes we know they are going to happen and other times we have to look for them.

I've experienced many moments and have taken them for granted. I thought I should share a picture of two special people who have always taken time to support me and all my endeavors. Aunt Linda and Mom. Without their constant support and sharing of talents I would not be where I am today. I just wanted to make sure I said "Thanks".

To get my mind of "itching" I thought I would catch up on my ATC cards. Our group did a butterfly exchange and I really wanted to make some. I used scraps from quilts, floral butterflies, jewelry, crystals, beads and sparkle threads to create a butterfly theme.
We are also doing an exchange of "beaded" cards this month so I am ahead of the game this time! The cards are made from ribbons, threads, found objects and lots of BEADS:) I can't get enough of them until I spill them all over the floor and then I wonder why I have so many!
I also want to thank everyone who stops by my blog. It's great fun to share my work with others. I feel as though I have friends from all over the world!
Thank someone you care about today, it's great feeling!
